Featuring Andrew Reimer, a fifth-generation chicken farmer. Andrew farms with his wife Jennifer, brother, parents, and four children in southern Manitoba.
Andrew’s Story is About Giving Back to the Community
Andrew believes in the importance of giving back to his community through Manitoba Chicken Producers Caring For Communities partnership program with Harvest Manitoba. Through Caring for Communities, Andrew and his family in collaboration with other farm families, donate chickens to Harvest Manitoba to provide families with nutritious protein. Harvest Manitoba then distributes food to over 83,000 Manitobans each month through food banks, soup kitchens, school lunch programs and low-income day-care centers.
Learn more about Caring for Communities:
Historically, organizations like Harvest Manitoba have trouble receiving consistent donations of fresh, lean protein. The partnership between Manitoba Chicken Producers, our farm families, like the Reimers, and industry partners Dunn-Rite Foods and Exceldor Co-operative has been able to change that. Since July 2020, the Caring For Communities program had provided Harvest Manitoba with 1,000 chickens per week. Manitoba chicken farmers donate these chickens, and Exceldor or Dunn-Rite process and transport them, providing a guaranteed, predictable supply of nutritious protein for Harvest Manitoba’s clients.
In this day in a life video, you’ll meet Andrew and his family and learn why participating in the Caring For Communities program is important to them and what motivates them to be a part of this larger giving community. For more information about this important program and how you can support Harvest Manitoba please visit our Caring For Communities page. We’d like to extend a sincere, heartfelt thank you to Andrew, Jennifer, and their family for sharing their story and extend a thank you all our generous farmers for contributing to the Caring For Communities Program.
