December 9, 2021 – Manitoba Chicken Producers, on behalf of its farm families and industry partners Dunn-Rite Foods and Exceldor Cooperative, is pleased to announce its continued Caring for Communities partnership with Harvest Manitoba for the third consecutive year.

The Caring for Communities program helps to stabilize Harvest’s protein needs by providing an on-going supply of safe, healthy, and nutritious Manitoba farm family-raised chicken. As of November, Harvest provides food for more than 83,000 Manitobans each month, and Manitoba Chicken Producers is proud to play a part in supporting Harvest and the greater community.

“With the incredible continued generosity and support of our farm families, Dunn-Rite, and Exceldor, we are proud to continue our Caring for Communities partnership with Harvest Manitoba into year three,” said Jake Wiebe, Chair of Manitoba Chicken Producers. “Through this program, we will continue to help feed hungry neighbours in communities across Manitoba.”

In July of 2020, Manitoba Chicken Producers farm families began donating 1,000 chickens a week, and Dunn-Rite and Exceldor donated processing services for those chickens for distribution by Harvest Manitoba.

“It takes a province to feed a province,” said Vince Barletta, Harvest President & CEO. “Harvest relies on donations of poultry, eggs and other nutritious proteins to provide healthier foods in our Harvest Hampers. This partnership helps to alleviate hunger and nourish vulnerable Manitobans in 325 communities across Manitoba.  We are grateful to our Harvest Star Partners Manitoba Chicken Producers, Exceldor Cooperative and Dunn-Rite Foods for their continued support over the last three years.”

“I want to thank Manitoba Chicken Producers, Dunn-Rite Foods, and Exceldor Cooperative for their continued generosity and community support during these challenging times,” said Ralph Eichler, Minister of Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development. “Providing Harvest Manitoba with high quality protein will help ensure Harvest can continue to feed hungry Manitobans and their families during this increased time of need.”
